African Avian Veterinary Volunteers and Dolittle's is deeply intertwined with the life and passion of our founder, Jenny. With a heart full of love for animals and a spirit of adventure, Jenny has traveled to over 44 countries. In every destination, she made it a priority to connect with the local wildlife, enriching her understanding and appreciation for animals worldwide.

For over 15 years, Jenny has successfully run a large adventure tourism business, blending her love for exploration and nature. However, her true sanctuary has always been her home, affectionately named Dolittle's.

 

Over the past 35 years, Dolittle's has been a haven for countless animals. Jenny has lovingly cared for 17 dogs, operated a rabbit sanctuary, rescued a pig from the SPCA, and more recently, taken in chickens found wandering the streets of Johannesburg.

As her dedication to animal welfare grew, turning Dolittle's into a volunteer center became a natural progression. Jenny recognized the pressing need for volunteer support in local animal sanctuaries and saw an opportunity to combine her expertise in tourism with her passion for animals.

Thus, African Avian and Veterinary Volunteers was born. Our center offers a unique space where volunteers from around the globe can come together to care for and learn about indigenous wildlife. Under Jenny’s guidance, volunteers gain hands-on experience, working with a variety of animals and contributing to their well-being.
